Wine as a bond between people
Wine is the path to the understanding between man and nature and with one's own self. The magic of life is reflected in the wine. We come from wine and we live the path of wine to share and spread it in our society. We rediscover and convey the six-thousand-year relationship between wine and western culture.
Products
Picardía (Mischief)
General Idea: After receiving numerous accolades at the Chardonnay du Monde contest, we sought to make a long lasting white wine with a Chardonnay base, that broke away from its traditionally robust buttery features. It is a sophisticated, endless wine, with aromas that come forth one after the other of white delicate flowers, minerals, dairy, sweet flowers, spices, white fruits, apricot, wood. A veritable surprise to the mouth, every few minutes it is as if the wine itself has completely changed.
Ideal Occasion: Perfect for an intimate or romantic dinner, such as a wedding anniversary or a marriage proposal, or for celebrating the birth of relatives.
Varietal composition: Chardonnay-Gewürztraminer.
Production capacity: 4000 bottles per year. Single vintage.
Available Stock: approximately 50 bottles
A design white wine, but entirely different to what one is familiar with. For the very open minded, the unaccustomed, or for those who have tried it all. The prejudiced will discard it immediately due to its golden tonality, but it finds followers among those who detest white wines. There is no middle ground with this wine, it generates a strong devotion or total rejection.
A quality aged white wine, of the variety now referred to as orange wines. In 2011, with great effort, a Chardonnay 2009 was macerated over lees and in contact with the oxygen of a Gewürztraminer 2011 in a vacuum that still maintained the dissolved CO2. It is important to serve it at temperatures of approximately 12 °C in a wine glass of generous size. In this way it is savored slowly, allowing the natural rising temperature, the liberation of CO2 and contact with oxygen to demonstrate the different facets of this wine, guiding us through the aromatic sensations of white flowers, minerals, spices, dehydrated fruits and honey. In the mouth, it presents itself with sharpness and acidity at the beginning, but as the concentration of CO2 falls, it shifts to a more neutral taste, before eventually giving way to a buttery sensation displaying the work over lees. These changes hold and go on for hours.
Combines splendidly with cheeses, pâté, fondue, pasta with creamy sauces, shellfish and greasy fish. There are 3333 bottles in total, 2500 liters in 0,75 L bottles.
Impetu 2007 (Impetus)
General Idea: Fine East Bordeaux-style wine of great longevity, with a touch of Tannat that reflects its Uruguayan identity and authenticity. It is a wine that evokes serenity.
Ideal occasion: A special, intimate quiet night planned well in advance. This wine is designed to be better enjoyed at night, on a wooden floor, with tenuous light, and to be served alongside simple, old-fashioned dishes. It is a great cigar companion. A unique, highly personalized gift ideal to show gratitude or recognition of some kind. It is so exclusive, that barely 700 bottles are produced only in years where exceptional harvests take place.
Varietal composition: Tannat Merlot Cabernet Franc
Production: 700 bottles per year
Next edition: 2015, still in the barrels. 300 bottles will come out for sale once the current Impetu runs out.
Description:
2006 was a very rainy year and resulted in a disastrous year for winemakers. We were left without high-quality wines. The whole vineyard had been prepared to exclusively harvest high guard wine. 1800 man-hours per hectare devoted themselves to disbudding, leaf removal and cluster thinning in the pre-flowering and post-flowering stages, along with the subsequent leaf removal and corrective thinning during the veraison stage.
The final yield was less than 20 % of potential. Manual harvesting and hand-picked clusters and grapes. Best Bordeaux-style fermentation with prolonged maceration and extended and sweet extractions of grape compounds. Remontages were done twice a day according to the taste of the extracted must. The contents of none but the best tanks were placed into 250 barrels. We decided to wait on the best ones, until the oak and wine fusion was complete.
Once the fusion period was complete, we prepared the blend. By the third year, the wine from the 80 best barrels seemed as if it had been bottled all along, with no oak flavor detectable whatsoever. Each one of the barrels was tasted along with every possible combination. We chose the blend based on the wine personality itself rather than the varieties it was made from. It turned out to be a blend with a lot of Tannat, some Merlot and a little Cabernet Franc.
At that moment 700 bottles were bottled, which remain stored to this day. In 2015, we had access to that 2007 wine and decided to put it up for sale.
Results: a ceremonial wine, which needs to be uncorked and allowed to sit and breathe for a while, whether it be for 4 hours in a decanter or up to ten hours in the open bottle. Careful with sediments. It is bottled unfiltered, for we consider it has been stabilized enough in the barrels. This wine is to be drunk over a several-hour period. If more than one bottle is to be opened, they must both be placed in a decanter as soon as they are uncorked. At first, the smell of “reduced” wine may be present. Then, when the wine oxygenates, double sulfur bonds are broken, which implies the fade of reduced wine smell, and over the course of hours a bouquet of aromas, hard to distinguish individually but very pleasant when combined (fruits, minerals, spices, smoke, chocolate), is released.
An entire meal revolves around this wine, and not the other way around. It is poured into a large wine glass (goblet) and slowly tasted as if it were a liquor. Enjoy it on its own, or with smoked, greasy, or cooked foods. It does not pair well with sugar. Preferably enjoy along with cheeses, meat cuts, pâté, foie gras, stews, lamb, game meat, sirloin, elaborate and spiced dishes. Pair with desserts such as bitter, dark chocolate, fruit compotes, high-fat creams, cocoa and coffee. Last but not least, it is a perfect cigar companion. Delicate, rounded tannins. We run it through our gums and realize that after 3 years in a barrel and more than a decade in a bottle, the tannins are alive, and they will be for many years to come.
Presentation: If the wine is given as a gift, it comes with a personalized card addressed to the recipient, the bottle number, and the preceding information.
Equilibrio 2011 (Balance)
General Idea: The great potential of Uruguay's calcareous clay soils is demonstrated by this rich, full-bodied wine, which in spite of the events that took place in 2011, was the most mighty wine obtained that year.
Ideal Occasion: It deserves to be the last wine at lunch or step dinner. It is the high note of the event. Pairs harmoniously with lipid and spicy dishes. It only gets superior as the hours pass by, until, eventually, it becomes unforgettable. Awarded a double gold medal at Tokyo's 2018 Sakura Awards in the A category (highest priced wines).
Varietal Composition: Tannat with a hint of Merlot.
Production Capacity: 4800 bottles per year. 2015 and 2018 versions are also available. 2021 is soon to be bottled.

Description:
A wine filled with emotions, difficult for us to part with: it was harvested alongside friends, immediately after selling the family winery and vineyard. 3 days after our return from Boston where our oldest son Santiago, 4 years old at the time, underwent heart surgery, and Felipe, who was 2 years old, undergoing chemotherapy treatment. It is a symbol of perseverance and rebirth from the ashes.
It was an amazing year in Uruguay, among the best along with 2015. When we returned from our trip the grapes were ready: seeds completely mature, cigar toned with a taste of walnut. A juicy and tasty pulp with a perfect balance between sweetness and acidity. The skin was free of pyrazines, colorful when chewed alongside with fine and mature tannins. We got in touch with our friends in order to help us with the harvest. Héctor Stagnari and his wife Virginia lent us crates and a tank without hesitation. On Sunday, March 13th 2011, we expected 20 friends who had confirmed they would help us. We hired a reefer truck to transport the grapes to H. Stagnari's winery.
Over 60 friends of different stages of our lives showed up, a preschool teacher, childhood neighbors, lifelong friends and people we had recently met, relatives of friends, former co-workers, acquaintances from the Ministry of Labor, people who traveled long distances in order to be there for us.
We harvested 1.4 hectares of high density Tannat and Merlot, they were put into the crates and packed onto the truck. It was almost a party, one of the most fun and enjoyable harvests we can recall. The grapes remained in the truck until the following Tuesday, no grape selection was needed.
It underwent a pre-fermentative maceration for a week. The fermentation swiftly began, with native yeasts. It was kept cool by adding water around the tank, with daily pumping. At the end of the alcoholic fermentation, we kept the moist cap in contact with the wine for an extended period of time, with brief daily pumping. The maceration lasted a total of 48 days.
When Felipe´s chemotherapy treatment finished, towards the end of October 2011, we bottled a few liters as a matter of celebration. It was such an exceptional wine that we decided to bottle it. A friend made his bottling machine available to us in order to use it. Together with him and our karate friends, we packaged Equilibrio 2011 in November. It was tannic wine, practically undrinkable, however we felt it was perfect.
9800 bottles of an aged, modern red wine, are produced without passing through barrels, highlighting the quality of the calcareous clay soil of southern Uruguay. A potent and highly drinkable wine was the result of harmonizing the structure of Tannat and the fleshiness of Merlot. Nowadays, even years later, it maintains an incredible freshness, with so much more yet to give.
It must be served between 16 to 18 ºC, due to its high alcohol content. It must be allowed to breathe for a couple of hours. Crystals were formed in the bottle which you must avoid serving. It's a wine to accompany a meal, not to drink on its own. It pairs perfectly with fruits, raisins, quince jelly, blue, matured and hard cheese, pasta with strong sauces, bluefish and roasted meats. It combines very poorly with chicken or mixed nuts because it exaggerates astringency and dries the mouth.
Presentation: It can be personalized as a gift in leather or wood.
Equilibrio 2015 (Balance)
General Idea: A stylized, Tannat-based long aged wine, intended to be consumed before its 2011 predecessor.
Ideal Occasion: A wine that can be drunk as the only wine of the day. Combines perfectly with any dish, at any moment of the day. Awarded with a double gold medal at the 2019 Sakura Awards in the A category (highest priced wines).
Varietal Composition: Tannat Merlot Malbec
Production Capacity: 4800 bottles per year. 2011 and 2018 editions are available. 2021 edition is soon to be bottled.
Available Stock: approximately 1000 bottles
Description:
2015 was one of the best years of the last two decades, due to the rain and sun conditions throughout the season. The Merlot is trimmed, thinned and uprooted from the high density espalier, resulting in 6.000 kg per hectare of exceptional grapes. The grapes are harvested by hand, and cooled in a reefer at 2ºC for 24 hours. In the winery, we select the clusters and grapes, then they are crushed and placed in a tank, where they bleed as much as possible, remaining the peels, seeds, pulp and a minimum trace of juice. We harvest the Tannat, selecting the clusters and grapes, adding them to the Merlot must, without being crushed or bleed. They are left to macerate below 10 ºC and fermentation begins at controlled temperatures with delicate and prolonged pumping, almost 10 times more than usual. Once fermentation is complete, it is left macerating again for a total of 68 days, more than twice the usual time. This is carried out only by two people, adjusting the protocol 2 times a day depending on the morning and afternoon tasting schedule.
Afterward, it is transferred to French, American and Hungarian oak barrels, where it remains for different lengths of time depending on the characteristics each one develops. Once this period is complete they are tasted, looking for the best proportion possible. Then the wines are properly combined adding 2% of Malbec from a century old vineyard, to be eventually bottled.
Results: A smooth and peculiar wine, that can be enjoyed at a party or at dinner, was achieved. Paired excellently with roasted lamb or stew. When taken lightly without much contemplation, it seems lean and delicate, whereas if it is analyzed and tasted correctly, it proves all its full aging potential, its firm tannins and it becomes a profound and complex wine. In March 2019, this wine was awarded a Double Gold Medal for wines above the 100 USD price point, at the largest international wine event in Asia (Sakura Awards).
Equilibrio 2018 (Balance)
General idea: A highly stable wine over time, it is interesting now and so will be in 30 years from now. A wine abundant in tannins, and yet easy to drink. This Tannat becomes more rounded as time goes by.
Ideal Occasion: It is an all-year wine, adequate for barbecue among friends, a family gathering or a holiday weekend, pairing ideally with pasta and pasties. For the day or night, to be enjoyed alone or accompanied. It is the perfect wine for those occasions where the outcome is yet unknown. A casual gift, when the recipient's tastes are unknown.
Varietal Composition: Tannat Merlot
Production Capacity: 4800 bottles per year. 2011 and 2015 vintages are up for sale. 2021 version soon to be bottled
Available Stock: approximately 500 bottles
Description:
2018 was a year of extreme drought, it almost hadn't rained during spring, the growth remained too short, there was a lack of leaves needed to reach the required minimum for a bunch to mature properly. On a regular year at Los Nadies after three cluster thinning instances, 65% of them are discarded. In 2018, 95% of the clusters were discarded, ensuring the proper maturity of the fruit. The maturity was uneven, yet with good skins, but not seeds, the grape berries dehydrated quickly. By the time of the harvest, the grapes were raisins. Native yeasts fermented the hyper concentrated sugary must in a stainless steel tank obtaining a liqueur wine with an alcohol content of over 18%. After more than a 180-day maceration process, the results were placed in two American oak barrels where it completed fermentation in September.
By the end of 2019, we sought to integrate those barrels into a blend that represents how interesting the year was. Thus a young, stylized and vibrant wine was selected, which represents the typical Uruguayan Tannat. Equilibrio 2018 is the result of a year's worth of consecutive trials.
Results: highly stable, dark in color, with thick tears running down the glass, the oxidation of the Tannat liqueur becomes visible at the meniscus. It is perceived as sophisticated, with a hint of licorice notes and a unique complexity to the sense of smell, sensing Tannat's typical identity.
Only 2500 bottles went up for sale due to the decreased output, 900 of them were already claimed since day one.

Rosado 2021
A strong gastronomic rosé that reflects Los Nadies' personality and strength. It is the result of a saignée of Equilibrio 2021 grapes.
Description:
Early-hour bleeding of the 2021 tannat and merlot harvest extractions were placed in concrete tanks where it co fermented and lightened, and then went straight from the tank to the bottle. The care in hygiene to achieve such a unique wine, from such a simple process, was monumental. From the 570 bottles bottled, only 500 were put up for sale.
Results: Upon sight, the color is a mix of cherry and raspberry pink. It is totally translucent and limpid. It has a very subtle floral scent which leads to a citric, grapefruit, dried orange grind and aniseed taste in the mouth, upon a delicate sweet ripe pomegranate fragrance. The mouth is invaded by a creaminess that equilibrates the acidity and a slightly bitter ending, like the albedo of the white grapefruit, that leads to lingering finish in the mouth
The bottles contain sediment due to the simplicity by which they were bottled. If the bottle is shaken, it will cloud for a few minutes, until the sediments sit once again at the bottom of the bottle.

Orujo (Eau-de-vie)
Original Idea: the South American equivalent of Galician eau-de-vie. After wine pressing, the marc is distilled to bring out subtle, delicate scents.
Varietal Composition: Tannat, Oruxo
Production Capacity: 200 bottles per year. They usually sell out in winter. Check for stock.
Available Stock: approximately 50 bottles
Keeping the ancient Galician traditions, this liquor is produced by collecting aromatic substances that are left in the grape skin. As these are highly volatile components, they are carefully selected by means of evaporation and subsequent condensation. Fresh marc is triple-distilled. First in a copper still, then followed by a second and third distillation, in stainless steel still. It is then cut in order to achieve its desired taste with underground water. For the last instance, it is aged in barrels, French and American oak of first use, for two years
The result is a young, metallic-colored, crystalline, deeply delicate aromatic and floral eau-de-vie.
It is served at -15 C, as an after-dinner drink, either in a tulip glass or as a shot. It can be paired with coffee or added to coffee grounds residue while still hot. Check for limited versions.
